Interview with filmmaker Laura Garcia (Winning Short Film ALEX)

WILDsound Festival's avatarWILDsound Festival

I thought that the feedback video was one of the best gifts this short film could bring me. Everything the audience said was so precise, every emotion… They captured the essence of the film! I never thought it could go so far. It really inspired me to keep on working.

– Laura Garcia’s reaction to watching the Audience FEEDBACK Video from the WILDsound Festival

Watch the AUDIENCE FEEDBACK VIDEO:

The Short Film ALEX was the Winner of Best FILM from the March 2015 WILDsound FEEDBACK Film Festival.

Matthew Toffolo interviews director Laura Garcia:

Matthew: What motivated you to make this film?

Laura: I was interested in adolescence and identity so adoption came up to my mind. Alex, the adopted girl in the film, wants to know more about her origin so she decides to meet her mother but hiding her identity. I thought that decision was strong enough to write…

Interview with director Aitor Arregi (ZARAUTZEN EROSI ZUEN)

WILDsound Festival's avatarWILDsound Festival

Watch the Audience FEEDBACK Video of ZARAUTZEN EROSI ZUEN (SHE BOUGHT IS AT ZARAUTZ) at the WILDsound FEEDBACK Film Festival:

ZARAUTZEN EROSI ZUEN was awarded Best Film at the April 2015 WILDsound Film Festival.

Matthew Toffolo interview with director Aitor Arregi:

Matthew: What motivated you to make this film?

Aitor: Every day life can offer us stories of great narrative potential. To tell a story you need a conflict, however banal it is, you can make important for the protagonist. In this case, our protagonist (Miren) misses her shirt at the store. She knows who stole it, but she can’t prove it. She becomes obsessed with it and you may think it’s nothing more than an anecdote. But for me it’s not only that, Miren is struggling to regain her battered dignity. That moves me and makes me feel that this concept can connect with the public. As much as…

Interview with Alice L. Lee, Winning Short Filmmaker (THE GOOD BOY)

WILDsound Festival's avatarWILDsound Festival

Watch the Audience Feedback Video of THE GOOD BOY:

THE GOOD BOY is the WILDsound Film Festival winner for Best Film in 2015.

Matthew Toffolo interviews director Alice L. Lee:

Matthew: What motivated you to make this film?

Alice: “the good boy” is a scene from a feature length screenplay I wrote several years ago when I was a student in the Film Division at Columbia University. It was based on a short story, “The Legend of Pig-Eye”, by Rick Bass, that I had the rights to, but the film never got made. One baby and many years later, I decided to get back into filmmaking by shooting a short film. I tried to take a scene from the feature, but I ended up having to rewrite the scene completely so it could be a stand-alone film.

While writing the feature script, I did some research on boxing and it…

Interview with filmmaker David Bonneville (GYPSY)

WILDsound Festival's avatarWILDsound Festival

It was like a gift. I think the audience completely understood the film. There were very different comments but I agreed with what all of them said. Plus, as I went to the results page, I saw the film earned two awards – Best Global Performance and Best Cinematography. A big cherry on top of the cake.

– Director David Bonneville on the WILDsound experience.

Interview with director Elizabeth Thompson (This Dewdrop World)

WILDsound Festival's avatarWILDsound Festival

I was thrilled with the audience response to the film. Some people in particular really “got” it, pointing to the words “and yet” in the opening haiku as the hint of hopefulness in the film. The shot of the school of fish shifting direction connotes that hope of a shift in consciousness. Cynicism is what parades as truth when real strength and courage are lacking (I’m paraphrasing Cornel West here); I was trying to push up against cynicism with that shot. Some people got it, others missed it.

Interview with Director John Hellberg (Mousse)

WILDsound Festival's avatarWILDsound Festival

Seeing the people’s reactions and comments on the film from the Toronto audience was a great experience for me and the rest of the crew and cast. I wish more festivals had an event like this as it is the very core of filmmaking. It made the screening of my film at your festival (and the awards) really special and real.

– John Hellberg on the WILDsound Film Festival Experience (Review)

Interview with Director John Hellberg:

Matthew: Your short film played at our festival in March 2014. How has it done since it screened? Has it played at more festivals? Distribution deal? Can be seen online?
