comedyfestival's avatarComedy FESTIVAL

Watch the Winning June 2016 Comedy Short Screenplay.

OZARK  by Craig Mrock

Narrator: Geoff Mays

Get to know the winning writer:

1. What is your screenplay about?

It’s a scene from a full length screenplay I wrote called “Halloween in Ozark” about Halloween in a small town. In this scene, one of the main characters, Roger, takes a chance at sitting next to the girl he’s madly in love with, Brittany. Of course, even the simplest of actions don’t happen easily when average teens experience such intense emotions, so the scene plays with that moment.

2. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

This particular scene addresses both the internal and external, environmental aspects of a moment in time. While many of us could relate to this situation through our own experiences, only a movie can smoothly and accurately show the various perspectives that embody a moment like…

NARRATOR – Sean Kaufmann

Get to know writer Erin Richardson:

1. What is your screenplay about?

My screenplay is about a rather comical exchange between two extremely vain women with similar priorities and differing morals.

2. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

I believe Cutting Remarks should be made into a movie because it makes a rather provocative statement about the materialistic nature of society (especially the middle-class) with a lighthearted and semi-realistic approach.

3. How would you describe this script in two words?

Comical, cute.

4. What movie have you seen the most times in your…

I was delighted watching the feedback video! Short movies may be shown at several festivals, but it’s not every day that the creators of those shorts get real-time feedback from a live audience. It made me really happy. Thanks for that!

Interview with Editor Crispin Green (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who)

matthewtoffolo's avatarMatthew Toffolo's Summary

Crispin Green has edited some of the top TV shows in recent times. It was a pleasure to site down with him to talk about the craft of editing and his career.

Interview with Crispin Green:

Matthew Toffolo: Tell us about the “Game of Thrones” experience. How is editing such a unique show where there are 4-7 plots occurring in a single episode?

Crispin Green: It’s an experience quite unlike working on other shows in that the editors are there for the duration of the shoot (about 6 months) rather than blocks of two or three episodes. This can help in the editing process as you get more of a sense of the season as a whole story.

MT: Will you be back to editing the series “Game of Thrones”? How does the process work? Who do you report to and collaborate with? The showrunners? The novelists? The director of…

Interview with Stunt Performer Hannah D. Scott

matthewtoffolo's avatarMatthew Toffolo's Summary

hannah_d_scott.jpgI really enjoyed chatting with Stunt Performer/Actor Hannah D. Scott about her profession. She was very open about everything and you can feel her passion for the industry and what she does in her answers. Enjoy!

Matthew Toffolo: What job has been your most valuable experience?

Hannah D. Scott: I think that part of the answer lies in not actually working, but watching people work. The set is such a massive machine and being able to take a step back to listen and learn is priceless. I was once asked, a long time ago, to step in as kind of intern of sorts. Understanding the camera, understanding how the director communicates with actors in order to get the right result, what cues to give to help them understand and so on was incredibly valuable. I could see how different lenses worked, how framing could make or break a shot, how…
